1. What piece of advice do you wish you knew when you started your career?
That networking and connecting with other professionals is the key to growing in your own career – learning to reach out to others that you look up to career-wise and ask them about their experience, their career paths and how they did it, is CRUCIAL! No matter where you are in the world – developing a strong network of professionals will help you advance upon your own.
2. How do you define success?
Success means never giving up – embracing the NOs, embracing the rejections, asking for feedback and using that as fuel to keep going. Whether it’s in your current career, during your job search or as you start out in a new field… how can you learn from the hurdles and then use them to grow and never give up.
3. What is the biggest misconception about what you do?
That I PLACE or GUARANTEE someone a job – this is the role of a recruiter, well, even recruiters can’t GUARANTEE a job… so, what I do spend a lot of time with upfront is explaining that the work I do with my clients is for their career growth and to aid in the eventual placement or growth in their career – whether that’s interview practice, negotiation tactics or working on performance reviews and career progression in your current company. I am not a recruiter.
4. What traits or skills do you believe one needs to have the same job title as you or to do what you do?
Passion to help others through tough times, empathy, and either Social Work, Therapy, or Human Resources background or interest. A lot of what I do is talking people through situations, asking them tough questions to help them learn more about themselves and prepare for their career advancement, that takes someone who is willing to feel uncomfortable and excited at the opportunity to help others reach beyond their current potential.
